To all Greenfield Minor League Baseball players and families,
On behalf of the Greenfield Minor League Board of Directors, we would like to wish you all good health in this confusing and disruptive time. The COVID-19 corona virus pandemic is unlike any situation we, as a community, have had to deal with in our generation. Please, let’s all do our part in containing the spread of this virus.
On Thursday March 19th, the Board of Directors met to decide on a course of action during this troubling time. We will be basing all of our decisions on the recommendations and restrictions placed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH).
As of now, opening day slated for April 26th will not happen. We have two plans ready if and when youth sports are allowed to begin. The first is if we are allowed to begin play in the spring. We could be ready to play by the middle of May. The exact date would be contingent of how quickly we could order and receive our uniforms. The contingency plan to that would be if youth sports are delayed to further into the summer. If that is the case, we are prepared to begin our season on July 5th and play into August.
In order to quickly and efficiently organize the league once the gathering restrictions are lifted, we ask that all GMLB families to please register their players at GMLB.org. You don’t have to pay yet, we’ll worry about the financial piece later. We just really need names and the number of players we have to work with as soon as possible.
For those of you that have already paid and the contingency plans do not work for your family, or you are just not comfortable in groups regardless of the recommendations of the CDC or MDPH, we will set up a time to honor refunds at a later date.
Thank you and stay healthy.
GMLB Board of Directors
